I(21) work at a barn that my friend(20) suggested for me and put in a good word with the boss. When this happened she was 18 and I was 19 at the time, she had started about 6 months before me at 17 years old. She then had to go for medical leave lasting about 6 months as well. During the time of her leave I took over some of her responsibilities at the time like ordering horse feed and she then continued those responsibilities when she came back.
Fast forward up to the current situation, she has been offered opportunities to move up in this job from stable hand to barn manager to part time facilitator(work with at risk clients), and then offered to be a codirector when our boss retires in the future. Unfortunately she had to move and quit this job so it will not be happening. Before her move I felt like I had stayed in the same position for the last few years as a stable hand.
Now with her leaving I'm taking on her responsibilities once again, for a dollar less pay. I feel upset that it took my friend/coworker leaving for me to be offered the position of barn manager as well as the facilitator. I had spent years volunteering with disabled clients at a separate barn which was known by my boss while my coworker didn't have that experience which I feel there was favoritism for her to get that position.
I think it's unfair for me to be receiving a dollar less as well as not getting the chance to move up until she left. When a previous coworker(32) had quit then she(20) and I(21) started working on a new schedule to make sure everything would still be covered. Then when 20 left I created another schedule to make everything work but I recently found out that 20 didn't believe I was cable of making a schedule or being a leader.
This job has impacted me negatively from getting yelled at multiple times, feeling stuck in one low position, working with an 104 fever, and more. Despite getting "promoted" to barn manager/facilitator 2 weeks ago I still think about job searching to quit this job, is that something I should do?
